Hi!
I’m Sophie — a Birth and Postnatal Doula based in York, offering personalised support to growing families both in person and online.
I’m half German, half English, and was born in Germany. I try to visit my family there as often as I can — big family meals and long chats over coffee and cake are my kind of soul food. I come from a large patchwork family with seven siblings, and I’m the proud aunt of a growing gang of nieces and nephews who mean the world to me.
My path to becoming a doula began during lockdown, when I supported my brother and sister-in-law after the birth of their first baby. My sister-in-law is disabled, and I stepped in as a carer — not just to help with daily tasks, but to support them emotionally and practically during those early, intense postnatal weeks. That experience changed everything for me. It made me realise just how much of a difference compassionate, hands-on care can make during that crazy time.
Before training as a doula, I worked with children and families as a nanny and carer, and I also have a degree in Psychology. I’ve always been drawn to work that supports and uplifts others. I have also worked as a disability advocate for several years, focusing on chronic conditions like Endometriosis and Adenomyosis — something I’m deeply passionate about and live with myself.
I trained with Nurturing Birth to become a certified Birth and Postnatal Doula (2023–2024).
At home, I live in York with my partner of five years and our mischevious dog Mila, who keeps me on my toes. When I’m not supporting clients, you’ll usually find me curled up with a good book and a hot chocolate, dancing around the kitchen to ABBA, or on facetime with my family (they all live on the other side of the country).
I love getting to know people and building real, honest connections. Nothing is too weird, too messy, or too much for me — you can show up exactly as you are. I’m here for the deep chats, the practical stuff, and the belly laughs in between.
My Philosophy
My Philosophy
I believe every birthing person deserves to have access to all the relevant information needed for them to make informed decisions.
I believe that sometimes the biggest gift is to be listened to and truly heard.
I believe that our bodies are capable of the most incredible, powerful things.
I believe that having a support network in those first weeks after the birth can allow families to settle into their new lives more smoothly.
I believe birth is a natural process that does not need to be medicalised unecessarily unless it is wanted by the birthing person.
I believe in having an inclusive birthing world that is accessible and welcoming to everyone.
