A Bit About Me
Sophie Seger
Birth and Postnatal Doula
I'm half German, half English - born in Germany me, my mum and brother moved to the UK when I was a baby to be with my dad. I am fluent in German and love going back to see my family as often as possible!

I come from a huge patchwork family with seven siblings, my nephews and nieces are my world. My first experience of postnatal care was during lockdown when I stayed with my brother and sister-in-law to support them in the weeks after the birth of their first baby. My sister-in-law is disabled and requires care, so I worked as an unpaid carer, although I was mostly supporting them with the postnatal period.
It was a truly life-changing experience as it has led me here today.

I'm based in York, am a dog mum to little Mila and live with my partner of five years.
In my down time I love cosying up on the sofa with a good book and a mug of hot chocolate or dancing around the kitchen to some ABBA.
I have a degree in Psychology and have worked with families and young children both as a carer and nanny for three years.
I work online as a disability
advocate with a focus
on conditions like
Endometriosis and
Adenomyosis. It is one of
my life's passions to help
support people with
chronic conditions - as I
myself have several and
know the devastating
impact illnesses can have.

I trained with Nurturing Birth to become a Birth and Postnatal Doula (2023-2024), I am also a trained paediatric first-aider (with St Johns Ambulance) and have an extensive DBS background check.
My loved ones describe me as a bubbly, passionate woman who loves nurturing others and has a silly sense of humour.
My Philosophy
I believe that everyone should have the best chance at an empowered, positive birthing experience. The best way for that to happen is to ensure people have continuity of care, that they feel confident in the information they are given so they can make informed decisions and that they are listened to.

Sometimes in order for this to happen we need some extra support. That's where I come in! I am here to make you aware of all your options, support your decisions and show up for you throughout your journey into parenthood.

I also believe that often not enough thought is given to the postnatal period. It is a time of great change that can manifest itself in both wonderful and challenging ways. Everyone deserves to have the best chance of a smooth transition into parenthood and to have a wonderful support system wrapping them up during those precious weeks with their baby.
I believe every birthing person deserves to have access to all the relevant information needed for them to make informed decisions.

I believe that sometimes the biggest gift is to be listened to and truly heard.

I believe that our bodies are capable of the most incredible, powerful things.
I believe that having a support network in those first weeks after the birth can allow families to settle into their new lives more smoothly.

I believe birth is a natural process that
does not need to be medicalised unecessarily unless it is wanted by the birthing person.

I believe in having an inclusive birthing world that is accessible and welcoming to everyone.
